Black Women Beautiful

Why the picture of America's Newest Top Model? I am always proud when one of the winners of this show is a Black woman. As I explain to my daughter, there was a time, when a Black woman, African American, what have U, was not seen as beautiful in this land (America). Never mind if she really was physically beautiful. If she didn't have the requisite blonde hair, blue eyes and white skin, she was not considered beautiful by the mainstream culture. Can U imagine what that did to a whole generation or two, or three? For men as well as women, we still suffer some of the effects of "not being good enough". African American women recognize this when we watch television shows such as ANTM. It becomes very important to us that we are finally recognized as beautiful, although I am glad the definition of beauty is changing... it still falls along the lines of White features in a brown body... ( U know what I mean...). Nevertheless, Danielle Evans, ANTM's latest winner (05-17-06) and Eva Pigford (season 3's winner) as well as YaYa DaCosta Johnson and Toccarra Jones and Mercedes all prove we are beautiful by even White people's standards. Halleleujah, it's about time! Finally people are admitting the truth... Black is beautiful!
*Stupid Footnote- I always joke that my favourite ladies on ANTM are Miss Jay and Mr. Jay,
