BACKLOG BLOG

Never have any time, so Im gonna make this quick:
-TCM (Turner Classic Movies) had a series called Film in Black & White with the very distinguished Mr. Robert Osbourne and film/entertainment historian, Mr. Donald Bogle. On May 4th, I actually watched the 3 hour and 14 minute spectacle, Birth of A Nation. (Sigh) Still not ready to address that. Although I really think today's younger generation needs to see this movie. Gone With the Wind was excellent though! What a great epic! I loved it! I relate to Scarlett O'hara on so many levels.
-Speaking of Donald Bogle, I am a mad fan of his. When I was 15 I found a book of his in a school library, entitled Toms, Coons, Mulattoes, Mammies and Bucks:An Interpretive History of Blacks in Film. So from that book I later found Brown Sugar by Mr. Bogle and I bought it in 1983 I think. It was the first time I came upon the word "Diva", so in my mind "Diva" was a mega entertainer of the Black and female persuasion, who was talented, beautiful and intelligent. The utlimate superwoman! I wasn't even sure how to pronounce it so I looked it up in the dictionary, and found it was of Italian origin.
-Something's Gotta Give with Keanu reeves, Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton was great. So was the Pirates of the Carribbean.
Race Matters: God bless Dr. Eric Michael Dyson! But brutha can't sing! It's a good laugh though.
-Cleopatra VII-I've raised my child to believe Cleo looked just like she does. Now people tell her she is conceited. My child thinks she's cute: is that supposed to be a bad thing?
-Rappers vs Oprah-Not cool. I am so glad Luda stepped up and defended her right to be who she is and have an opinion. Can't we all just get along? Bottom Line-Oprah, like rappers, must cater to her audience. She can't alienate her base. Marketing 101-know your clientele (or audience/buyers); then target them.
-The rich get richer and the poor get poorer... and the middle class just gets erased.
-Musician (I guess), Mickey Avalon on the Simple Life.
-Kimora and Raven-On March 18, 2005 I took my kid to meet Raven Simone of Disney's That's So Raven. On March 14, 2006 I took my kid to meet Kimora Lee of Baby Phat. I was very impressed with them both, and Kimora Lee gave my daughter a free book, Fabulosity, with her autograph in it. I just completed reading it. I am so with her in the attitude we should all have about life! I highly recommend this book. So much good advice and the quotations from notables is excellent.
-Never been called "bitch" or "nigger" by Whites (at least not to my face), but Blacks have done it to me numerous times. Usually when they can't get what they want from me.
